Sheldon, Iowa — Sheldon area motorists will soon experience a detour of Highway 18, but the plan is to have the highway open for most of the Celebration Days festival.
Sheldon City officials tell us Highway 18 will be closed for railroad track repairs starting next Monday, August 31st. They tell us the repairs are expected to be completed by Friday, September 4th. You are told to use the posted detour route.
Sheldon Celebration Days start on Thursday, September 3rd, and run through Labor Day, Monday, September 7th.
Sheldon Public Works Director and interim co-city manager Todd Uhl says a second closure in the same area will be happening in mid-September.
Uhl says motorists are urged to follow the detour and drive with caution.
