Hospers, Iowa (Sioux County Radio) — A 22-year-old Hospers man is facing felony charges following an investigation by the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office into alleged online communications with someone he believed to be a minor.
According to a sheriff’s office press release, Tyler James Reis was arrested Monday, February 23rd at 11:30 a.m.
Court documents show the investigation began Friday, February 20th, after authorities received information regarding online activity. According to the criminal complaint, Reis engaged in communication through an online dating application with an individual he believed to be a 14-year-old female. The conversation later transitioned to text messaging.
The affidavit states that during the exchanges, Reis allegedly requested nude photographs from the minor and engaged in explicit conversations detailing sexual acts. Investigators allege he attempted to solicit the minor to engage in unlawful sexual conduct, knowing the act would be photographed and preserved.
Authorities further state that in a post-Miranda interview, Reis admitted to communicating with the minor.
Reis was transported to the Sioux County Jail and charged with sexual exploitation of a minor, a Class B felony, and grooming, a Class D felony.
Court records indicate the alleged incidents occurred between February 19th and February 20th in Hospers. At last report, Reis remained in the Sioux County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 cash or surety bond.
