Sioux Center, Iowa– A Hull teen was taken to the hospital after an accident in Sioux Center on Friday, August 16, 2024.
The Sioux Center Police Department reports that at about 2:15 p.m., 18-year-old Guillermo Herrera Chavez of Hull was driving a 2005 Honda southbound on Highway 75, in Sioux Center. They tell us that 32-year-old Samantha Sherwood of Ottumwa was northbound on 75 in a 2019 Chevy.
The report says that Herrera Chavez was in the left turning lane and proceeded to turn left onto 4th Street Southeast, failing to yield, and collided with the Sherwood vehicle. After the collision, both vehicles proceeded onto the curb and onto an easement. A light pole and street sign were also damaged.
The Sioux Center Ambulance took Herrera Chavez to Sioux Center Health Hospital.
Sherwood reported no injuries.
Herrera Chavez’s Honda sustained $6000 in damages, which was enough to total it, and Sherwood’s Chevy sustained $9000 in damages. The street sign received $50 in damage, and the light pole, $400 in damage.
Herrera Chavez was charged with no valid driver’s license and failure to yield upon left turn.
