(Zach Lahn - Community First Broadcasting Staff Photo)Humboldt, Iowa (RI) — Republican Zach Lahn says many Iowans who support his campaign for governor are backing him because of his positions on issues that emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic.
After President Trump declared COVID-19 a national public health emergency, Gov. Reynolds ordered schools, churches, and most business to close on March 17th, 2020. The state gradually began lifting those restrictions in late April.
This spring, Reynolds signed legislation that prevents future governors from ordering the closure of private businesses or churches during a public health emergency. The law also prohibits vaccine mandates during such emergencies.
In May, Kennedy announced the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention would no longer recommend COVID-19 vaccines for healthy children and pregnant women. In late August, the Food and Drug Administration said COVID-19 vaccines should be limited to people age 65 and older and those older than 6 months with at least one underlying health condition.
Lahn has called for COVID-19 vaccines to be removed from the market.
Lahn made his comments during a weekend forum in Humboldt.
