Lewis & Clark Ribbon Cut In Sibley, Marking Last Water System To Be Connected

Sibley, Iowa — Missouri River Aquifer water is now flowing to Sibley. And with that announcement, after over 30 years in the making, all of the member water systems are now hooked up to the Lewis & Clark Regional Water System.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Monday at the system’s Sibley Meter Building.

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley was on hand and delivered remarks. Grassley discussed his longtime support of the clean water initiative and thanked local leaders for their hard work and dedication to the project.

Grassley said, “Over 30 years ago, community leaders began dreaming of a way to provide safe, clean water to hundreds of thousands of Iowans and Midwesterners. After decades of perseverance, we’re seeing that dream come to fruition. While today marks the final connection to the Lewis and Clark Regional Water System, you can be sure of my continued support through future construction and expansion projects.”

Grassley thanked all those involved. He says they “have been tirelessly committed to improving their communities. Your work has made a real impact.”

Iowa water systems connected to Lewis & Clark include Sheldon, Sibley, Sioux Center, Hull, and Rock Rapids. Eleven systems in South Dakota and four in Minnesota are also part of the Lewis & Clark system.
