Little Rock Man Faces Felony Drug Charge After Sheldon Stop

Sheldon, Iowa — A Little Rock man has been arrested on a felony drug charge after an equipment violation stop in Sheldon.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the O’Brien County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Sheldon Police Department, 43-year-old Jacob De Smet of Little Rock is accused of the possession of a controlled substance. He was arrested on Sunday.

In his statement, the officer says De Smet was stopped for an equipment violation. He says the odor of marijuana was smelled coming from the vehicle and from De Smet himself. The officer says he located marijuana, methamphetamine, a meth pipe, and a marijuana container with THC wax in De Smet’s vehicle.

De Smet was charged with possession of a controlled substance, third or subsequent offense. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison. He also faces misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and operating under the influence.

He faces a preliminary hearing on the charges on April 14th.

De Smet was booked into the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar and was released the same day after posting bond.
