Orange City, Iowa — Area law enforcement officers were a little busier than normal during this weekend’s Orange City Tulip Festival, and a fugitive is behind bars because of it.
Sioux County Sheriff’s Office personnel tell us that on Saturday, just before 1:00 p.m., law enforcement officers arrested 52-year-old Kyle Backhaus of Amite City, Louisiana.
The arrest stemmed from a tip that Backhaus, who had a nationwide arrest warrant and multiple other arrest warrants and had been evading law enforcement for four years, would likely be working the carnival rides at the Tulip Festival in Orange City.
Sheriff’s deputies wearing plain clothes coordinated efforts to locate, identify, and take Backhaus into custody.
Backhaus was transported to the Sioux County Jail, where he was held on the warrants.
