Rock Rapids, Iowa — A Luverne, Minnesota man who had already been arrested and faced a number of felony sexual exploitation charges in Rock Rapids in September is charged with several more felony counts in another case.
A criminal complaint filed by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office in district court accuses 36-year-old Joseph Oliveira of committing a sex act against a 13-year-old on at least seven occasions in August of this year at a home in Rock Rapids.
He faces seven counts of second-degree sexual abuse, a class B felony.
If convicted on all counts and ordered to serve the time on all counts consecutively (which doesn’t normally happen), Oliveira could face a prison sentence of up to 175 years. That would be in addition to the up to 145 years he could face for the felony charges in the other case, which arose in September of this year.
A preliminary hearing on the new charges has been set for November 11th, 2026.
At last report, Oliveria remained in the Lyon County Jail in Rock Rapids in lieu of a $175,000 bond.
