Des Moines, Iowa (RI) — Cleaning up Iowa’s waterways, promoting food growth for human consumption, and opposing vaccine mandates were among the themes highlighted at a Make America Healthy Again rally Wednesday night in suburban Des Moines.

U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a leading figure in the MAHA movement, served as the keynote speaker.

Kennedy also criticized the impact that agricultural chemicals and runoff can have on water quality.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Zach Lahn, who received an endorsement from the MAHA Political Action Committee earlier this year, told the crowd he wants Iowa to become a national leader in food production.

Lahn says linked water quality, cancer concerns, and school nutrition policies to broader pro-life issues.

The MAHA PAC has endorsed a dozen other candidates around the country, including Republican congressional candidate Joe Mitchell of Iowa’s 2nd District.

Mitchell used part of his remarks to criticize former National Institutes of Health Director Anthony Fauci.

A small group of protesters gathered outside the event, expressing support for vaccine requirements and pointing to the increase in Iowa measles cases this year.
