Des Moines, Iowa (KUOO) — Several northwest Iowa school districts will receive a share of $600,000 in competitive grant funding through the Iowa Department of Education’s Credentials to Careers Grant Program.

Among the districts receiving funding are Le Mars, Sibley-Ocheyedan, and South O’Brien.

The grants are intended to help school districts create new or expand existing career and technical education programs. The programs are designed to help students earn state-approved, industry-recognized credentials that have value in the workforce.

The funding is provided through the Carl D. Perkins Center and Technical Education Act of 2006.

A total of 24 Iowa school districts were awarded grants through the program.
