Northwest Iowa Still Impacted by Drought, But Conditions Improve Statewide

Statewide Iowa – While much of northwest Iowa is still dealing with Severe Drought, rain over the past week has resulted in improved conditions statewide.

According to the Iowa Drought Monitor map released Thursday, less than two-thirds of the state has either Moderate or Severe Drought, down from nearly 90 percent last week. Over 50 percent of Iowa was in Severe Drought last week, but that’s dropped to 13 percent. All of the Severe Drought is in northwest and western Iowa. A small portion of Buena Vista County is in Severe Drought, while the rest is in Moderate.

The entire state was at least Abnormally Dry last week, but now some of southern Iowa has normal conditions.
