Paullina Man Accused Of Sexual Exploitation Of A Child

Paullina, Iowa — A Paullina man has been arrested on a warrant for felony sex charges.

A criminal complaint filed with the O’Brien County Clerk of Court’s Office by the county sheriff’s office says that 26-year-old Alexandr Vlietstra of Paullina is accused of sexual acts with a child under the age of 12. He was arrested on a warrant on Tuesday.

In his statement, the deputy says Vlietstra took multiple photographs of the victim touching his genitalia. The deputy says the photos were located on Vlietstra’s cell phone.

Vlietstra was charged with sexual abuse of a minor younger than 12 years of age and two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, all class B felonies, and lascivious acts with a child, a class C felony. If convicted, Vlietstra could face up to 25 years in prison on each class B count, and up to 10 years in prison on the class C felony count. He also faces misdemeanor-level charges in connection with the alleged crime.

He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on January 27th.

At last report, he remained in the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar in lieu of a $105,000 bond, $100,000 of which can be cash or surety, and the remaining $5000 is cash only.
