Sioux Center, Iowa — A radio-controlled (RC) aircraft gets the blame for a fire on Monday, October 19, 2026, near Sioux Center.
According to Sioux Center Fire Chief David Van Holland, at about 2:05 p.m., the Sioux Center Fire Department was called to the report of a field fire near the Sioux County Fairgrounds– the old Sioux Center Airport property, about two miles north of Sioux Center and a half a mile west.
When they got there, the chief says the fire department saw a fair amount of stalks on fire, but luckily there was no standing corn, only stalks and stubble.
Van Holland says no injuries were reported.
Sioux Center firefighters were assisted by the Ireton and Hull fire departments.
He says an RC aircraft either landed or crashed in a field and started the field on fire.
Chief Van Holland reports that the damage was limited to the stalks and stubble.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about 45 minutes.
