Rock Rapids, Iowa — A Rock Rapids man has been arrested on a felony assault charge after an incident in that town.

A criminal complaint filed by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office in district court accuses 35-year-old Tyler Tuenge of Rock Rapids of assaulting his wife and being in possession of marijuana.

In his statement, the deputy says they were called to Tuenge’s home in the early hours via a 911 call made by Tuenge’s wife. When they got there, no one came to the door, so they made entry through an unlocked door to find the pair in the basement. Deputies say they also found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in plain view.

Tuenge was charged with domestic abuse assault impeding air or blood flow, a class D felony. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison. He also faces a misdemeanor possession of marijuana charge.

Tuenge was scheduled for a preliminary hearing this Tuesday, but has already made a plea of not guilty.

He was booked into the Lyon County Jail in Rock Rapids and was released the same day after posting a $6000 cash or surety bond.
