Rock Rapids, Iowa — Many homes and businesses in Rock Rapids were without power for a time on Thursday.
Rock Rapids Municipal Utilities personnel tell us a circuit was lost and power went out at 11:57 a.m. Thursday morning. Those west of the City’s substation lost power. They tell us the outage only affected one of Rock Rapids’ six circuits.
Officials say that the cause of the outage was what they call a “switch fault.” That means that without any obvious outside influence that they know of besides regular wear-and-tear, one of the big switches used to switch power stopped working. No location of the switch was mentioned.
Power was restored to nearly all customers around 1:00 p.m., and to the few others who were affected by about 1:45 p.m.
