Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon City Council met in regular session on Wednesday evening.
A couple of things that they planned to do were not available. The police promotion to Sergeant did happen, but Officer Timothy Loeschen was out sick, so the oath will take place at another time. Also, the O’Brien County Emergency Management Agency report that was on the agenda was removed. It will be rescheduled due to scheduling conflicts.
The council passed the consent agenda.
They held a public hearing for the painting of the water tower. No comments were received, and the resolution accepting the bid passed. The low bid, from Texas-based O & J Coatings was for $374,500, according to Public Works Director Todd Uhl.
The council also voted to dispose of a piece of property that was originally platted to be 13th Avenue, but that the City has no use for. The City is open to proposals for the property, which is actually too narrow to have a free-standing building on it.
The council then heard from O’Brien County Economic Development Director Kiana Johnson. She spoke about their revolving loan fund which has now given 70 loans totaling about five million dollars. About 1.3 million of that went to Sheldon projects. She also gave an update on their Tourism Committee and their Career Day. She says one of the big things about Career Day is preventing students’ misconceptions about what careers are like.
Sheldon Chamber And Development Executive Director Tania Herrera Gonzales gave an update about some things going on in town.
