Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon City Council will meet for a City Council Budget Workshop
on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at 4:30 pm and on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at 4:30 pm in the council chambers at 416 9th Street.
While the meeting is available via YouTube Live, you can only participate in person or by submitting a written comment before the meeting.
Council members will review the mayor and council goals. They will hear some reports about bonding capacity and debt from D.A. Davidson Co., including a report about the 2018 Sewer revenue bond and the 2017B Callable Wastewater Treatment Plant debt.
City Manager Sam Kooiker will detail estimated balances for updated balance information as the process progresses.
Several items will be discussed, from revenues and expenses to insurance, transfers and more. There will be department presentations from several departments, including Ambulance, City Attorney, Crossroads Pavilion, EMA, Fire, Library, Police, Regional Airport, SCDC, and Public Works. Public Works will talk about several sub-departments, such as cemetery, parks, recreation & pool, stormwater, streets, water, wastewater, and zoning & code enforcement.
The capital projects and land plans will be discussed, as will requests from several partner organizations, such as RIDES, golf, Mid-Sioux Opportunity, Children’s World, O’Brien County Economic Development, the NCC/LLRC Wellness Center, Upper Des Moines Opportunity, and Family Crisis Centers.
The Local Option Sales Tax or “LOST” and Tax Increment Financing or “TIF” will be discussed, as well as the Hotel/Motel Tax and urban renewal.
