Sheldon City Council Holds 15-Minute Meeting

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon City Council met in regular session in the council chambers of the Sheldon Community Services Center on Wednesday afternoon, January 3rd.

They approved the consent agenda, which included the annual depository resolution and the annual official newspaper designation. It also included the final pay estimate for the airport fuel system improvements.

In new business, the council approved Fire Chief Brad Hindt’s appointment of Scott Ruden as Second Assistant Chief, recognized Keith Vaandrager for 18 years of service, and heard reports from Police Department Chief Scott Burtch and Public Works Director Todd Uhl.

Burtch talked about police statistics for 2023. He says there were more arrests but fewer traffic offenses. Uhl told the public that it’s time to start turning down your water softeners. He was also asked the status of the new water tower at the south edge of the city. He says a big chunk of what is left is electrical and control equipment. He says they hope to finish up in February, but they actually have until July, according to the contract.

They also reminded the public that the downtown recycling container is moving to De Kruif Disposal’s lot on North 2nd Avenue (Old Highway 60).
