Sheldon Disaster Recovery Center To Close August 30th

Sheldon, Iowa — Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management and FEMA have approved the extension to keep the Disaster Recovery Center in Sheldon open for an additional week.  The final day of operations for the DRC in Sheldon will be August 30th.

O’Brien County Emergency Management Director Jared Johnson tells us that after the DRC in Sheldon closes, people may continue to register for FEMA and/or SBA assistance by using multiple other options listed below in the picture. (phone, online, app, going to a different DRC.)  There are some other DRCs in the NW Iowa area that may stay open longer due to the number of people impacted in their area.  The final date to apply for FEMA Individual Assistance or SBA assistance is   October 22, 2024.

Johnson tells us that if someone appeals a FEMA decision on eligibility for assistance, it may take up to 30 to 90 days for FEMA to review the appeal letter and supporting documentation.

He says you can reach out to O’Brien County EMA if you hear of any additional unmet needs.
