Sheldon Firefighters Extinguish Ditch Fire Near Church Of The Brethren

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Fire Company was called out for a ditch fire on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, near Sheldon.

According to Sheldon Fire Chief Brad Hindt, at about 5:30 p.m., the Sheldon Fire Company was called to the report of a ditch fire at 4615 300th Street, two miles north and almost a mile west of Sheldon, near the Church of the Brethren.

The chief says the fire department saw the ditch on fire as they approached the scene. He says they extinguished the fire.

Hindt says no injuries were reported.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to be sparks from a burn pile.

Chief Hindt reports that the damage was limited to a quarter mile of grass in the ditch and fenceline.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about a half an hour.
