Primghar, Iowa — A Worthington, MN man has been arrested on felony forgery charges after deputies found him with the ID of another person.
According to a criminal complaint filed with the O’Brien County Clerk of Court’s Office by the county sheriff’s office, 21-year-old Javier Perez Escobar of Worthington is accused of the possession of an ID that was not his. He was arrested on Tuesday, March 5th, 2024.
In his statement, the deputy says Perez Escobar was placed under arrest by a Iowa State Trooper on a valid O’Brien County warrant. He says he met the trooper to transport the defendant to the O’Brien County Jail, and when he pat searched him before transport, he discovered a California ID bearing the name of another individual on it in defendant’s right front pants pocket. The deputy says once they arrived at the jail he discovered that the bar code on the back of the California ID card came back to a valid California driver’s license issued to yet another person.
The deputy says Escobar told him that he didn’t know either of the two people from California, and that a friend had given him the California ID and told him to use it to gain employment. Perez Escobar told the deputy that he had had the California ID for about a month.
Perez Escobar was charged with forgery, a class D felony. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.
He faces a preliminary hearing on the charges on Tuesday, March 26th.
At last report, Perez Escobar remained in the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar.
