Sheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon man has been arrested on a felony theft charge after an incident in Sheldon.

A criminal complaint filed by the Sheldon Police Department in district court accuses 55-year-old David McFarlin of Sheldon of stealing fittings and attempting to sell them for money. He was arrested on Tuesday.

In his statement, the officer says Rome Grinding Solutions was able to obtain photo evidence that McFarlin was found to be in possession of proprietary fittings that are machined at Rome. He is also said to have admitted to his employer and to law enforcement that he did, in fact, take the fittings and scrapped them at a scrap facility in Spencer. The facility confirmed he was there, according to the officer, who says the fittings were valued at over $2300.

McFarlin was charged with second-degree theft, a class D felony. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.

A preliminary hearing has been set for Friday, November 6th.

McFarlin was booked into the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar and was released on Thursday after posting bond.
