Sheldon Man, Passenger Taken To Hospital After Accident Near Rock Valley

Rock Valley, Iowa — A Sheldon man and his passenger were taken to a hospital after an accident on Monday afternoon near Rock Valley.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, at about 1:25 p.m., 22-year-old Cade Van Zee of Rock Valley was driving a 2022 Peterbilt semi-tractor northbound on Elmwood Avenue, four miles south of Rock Valley. They tell us 92-year-old John Kreykes of Sheldon was driving a 2016 Buick Enclave eastbound on 360th Street. Kreykes entered the intersection and the vehicles collided.

The Rock Valley and Sioux Center ambulances took Kreykes and a passenger to Sioux Center Health for treatment of their injuries.

The Peterbilt sustained about $35,000 in damage. Damage to the Buick was estimated at $10,000.

Kreykes was cited for failure to obey a stop sign.

The sheriff’s office says the Rock Valley Police Department, Rock Valley Ambulance Squad, Rock Valley Fire Department, Sioux Center Ambulance Squad, Sioux Center Fire Department, Sioux Center Police Department, and the Iowa State Patrol assisted them with the response to the accident.
