Sheldon, Iowa — A new Mexican store has opened in Sheldon and they celebrated with a ribbon cutting on Friday.
Sheldon Chamber and Development (SCDC) Executive Director Tania Herrera Gonzales did double duty at the ribbon cutting, representing the SCDC and translating from Spanish to English. She said this on behalf of the SCDC.
Herrera Gonzales then gave her remarks in Spanish.
We asked co-owner Walter Ibarra about the store.
Herrera Gonzalas translated.
Ibarra also mentioned that they will offer money transfers, check cashing, and debit card payments and refills. He tells us (in Spanish) what their hours will be.
Herrera Gonzalas translated.
KIWA’s Skip Tanner also did double duty, doing the interviews and also speaking on behalf of the Sheldon Ambassadors.
We also spoke to co-owner Valentina Flores who tells us they will also have cold-weather apparel and blankets.
And again, Herrera Gonzales translated for the English speakers.
And co-owner Luis Alberto Ibarra tells us more.

The name of the store is La Corita Jalisco. Jalisco is a state in west-central Mexico, where Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara are located. “La Corita” means “little heart.” The store is located two doors south of Downtown Hardware, at 820 3rd Avenue in downtown Sheldon.
KIWA wishes to thank SCDC Director Tania Herrera Gonzales for her help with translation.
