Sibley-Ocheyedan Voters Going To The Polls Again Tuesday

Sibley, Iowa — Voters in the Sibley-Ocheyedan Community School District will be going to the polls on Tuesday, and proponents of the issue hope the third time is the charm.

We talked with Sibley-Ocheyedan Superintendent Stan DeZeeuw, who tells us a yes vote would raise the Voted Physical Plant and Equipment Levy or VPPEL from 67 cents per thousand to a dollar per thousand. But, he says, they’ve tried twice before to raise the amount, and those times they had asked for $1.34 per thousand. This time it’s only a dollar.

DeZeeuw tells us the tax burden for Sibley-Ocheyedan voters is right in line with nearby districts.

He says there is some misinformation out there about how much this is going to cost taxpayers.

He gives us an example.

Mr. DeZeeuw says those figures are per-year. He tells us that another thing that people think is that if this measure is defeated, the VPPEL would stay at 67 cents per thousand. He says that is NOT the case.

He says there are two polling places in Sibley and one in Ocheyedan, and you need to go to your designated polling place. For more information, you can contact the Osceola County Auditor’s office at (712) 754-2241.
