(KIWA Staff Photo)Sioux Center, Iowa (Sioux County Radio) — A Sioux Center man faces a felony drug charge and several driving-related charges after police allege he sold methamphetamine during a controlled buy in the parking lot of the Sioux Center Public Library.
Court documents say 26-year-old Edgar Salvador Lopez-Niz was arrested Sunday, September 6th, after an incident around 4:30 p.m. at 102 South Main Avenue.
Police allege Lopez-Niz arrived in a black Chevrolet Camaro and sold and delivered methamphetamine during the controlled buy. Officers arrested him as he left the library and seized the vehicle, citing its alleged involvement in meth distribution.
Lopez-Niz is charged with a controlled substance violation involving no more than five grams of a substance containing methamphetamine. The complaint lists the charge as a Class C felony.
He also faces a charge of driving while barred, an aggravated misdemeanor. A separate complaint alleges his license was barred under Iowa’s habitual offender provisions.
Additional filings allege:
- Driving while suspended
- Operating without a valid driver’s license
- Operating without a required ignition interlock device
- Contempt for failing to comply with an order to install an ignition interlock device
Sioux County Jail records list bond at $12,600 cash or surety. Booking information indicates Lopez-Niz was released Monday, September 7th, after posting cash bond.
