Sioux Center, Iowa (Sioux County Radio) — Sioux Center native and current resident Teri Hubbard has been appointed to the Iowa Commission of Libraries by Governor Kim Reynolds.
Hubbard joined the Sioux Center Library Board in early 2025. She said the appointment gives her a new role in state-level discussions affecting public libraries.
Hubbard said she applied for the position after being encouraged by state lawmakers familiar with library-related discussions in Sioux Center. She later addressed the commission during a February meeting and was notified of her appointment by the governor following that meeting.
The Iowa Commission of Libraries is a nine-member board that oversees statewide library policy and accreditation standards. The issue gained attention locally after the State Library of Iowa warned that a proposed tiered access card system at the Sioux Center Public Library could jeopardize the library’s accreditation under current state standards.
Hubbard said her experience locally has informed how she views those standards.
Hubbard said her interest in library policy is also influenced by her personal perspective.
Hubbard will serve as a public library trustee representative on the commission, which meets quarterly.
