Sioux Center Woman Taken To Hospital After Million Dollar Corner Crash

Maurice, Iowa– A Sioux Center woman was taken to the hospital after an accident near Maurice on Friday, August 2, 2024.

The Iowa State Patrol reports that at about 9:40 a.m., 50-year-old Semra Avci of Clifton, New Jersey was driving a semi owned by Evelek Transportation of New Jersey, pulling a Werner Enterprises box trailer eastbound on Highway 10, at the Million Dollar Corner, two miles north of Maurice. They tell us that 60-year-old Kembe Hulstein of Sioux Center was driving a Chevy Suburban, pulling a trailer with a side-by-side UTV on it southbound on Highway 75.

The report says that the semi failed to stop at the stop sign and proceeded into the intersection, striking the passenger side of the Suburban.

The Sioux Center Ambulance took a passenger in the Suburban, 61-year-old Kathryn Hulstein of Sioux Center, to Sioux Center Health Hospital after she was extricated from the Suburban. Avci reported no injuries.

The semi sustained minor damages, and the Chevy Suburban sustained major damages. The side-by-side received $1500 in damages.

Avci was charged with failure to stop for a stop sign.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office Nixle service, the intersection was closed for nearly five hours.
