Larchwood, Iowa — A Sioux Falls man has been arrested on a felony eluding charge after a pursuit near Larchwood.
According to records from the Lyon County Clerk of Court, 42-year-old Michael Theesfeld of Sioux Falls was taken into custody on Monday on a warrant, following a complaint filed by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.
In his statement, the deputy says someone reported a pickup on the side of the road at 130th Street and Beech Avenue. When the deputy arrived, he parked in front of the pickup. When he knocked on the pickup’s driver’s side window, the man woke up and was agitated. When asked if he had used alcohol or drugs recently, he said he hadn’t. But the deputy says he did show multiple signs of impairment. The deputy thought he also might be in mental distress. When asked to exit the pickup, the man (later identified as Theesfeld) backed up and sped away. The officer gave chase, and the pursuit didn’t end until the Sioux Falls city limits. The deputy says Theesfeld committed numerous traffic violations in South Dakota.
Theesfeld was charged with eluding in Iowa, a class D felony. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.
He faces a preliminary hearing on March 13th.
Theesfeld was booked into the Lyon County Jail in Rock Rapids, and was released the next day after posting a $5000 bond.
