Larchwood, Iowa — A Sioux Falls man has been arrested on felony firearms charges at the casino near Larchwood.
According to a criminal complaint filed with the Lyon County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation, (DCI), 28-year-old Caden Smith of Sioux Falls is accused of threatening casino staff with a handgun. He was arrested on Friday, January 10th.
In his statement, the DCI agent says that just before 2:00 a.m., Smith threatened Grand Falls Casino staff with a handgun by showing the handgun in his waistband while making threatening statements and later removing the handgun and pointing it at casino employees and flashing the light while exiting the gaming floor.
Smith was charged with felon in control of a firearm, a class D felony. If convicted, Smith could face up to five years in prison. He also faces misdemeanor charges of displaying a dangerous weapon, eluding, and interference with official acts.
He faces a preliminary hearing on the charges on Wednesday, January 22nd.
At last report, according to the Lyon County Jail arrest log, Smith remained in the jail in Rock Rapids in lieu of a $9000 bond.
