(KIWA Staff Photo)Iowa (RI) — As September begins and daylight hours shrink, Iowa farmers will soon be headed into the fields — and harvest season can bring added risks on rural roads.
State Trooper Paul Gardner, headquartered in Fort Dodge, urges Iowa motorists to stay alert as more farm machinery moves between fields.
Gardner says drivers need to use extreme caution when attempting to pass a tractor or combine.
He says farmers should ensure their equipment displays slow-moving vehicle triangles, and if they’re on the road at night, they should use four-way flashers. Gardner also reminds motorists to use caution at rural intersections, where tall corn can block a driver’s line of sight.
