Spencer Man Sentenced On Federal Drug Charge

Sioux City, Iowa —  A Spencer man will spend a little more than three years behind bars on a federal drug charge.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa says 42-year-old Leon Banks was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty back in February of this year to possession with intent to distribute a mixture or substance with cocaine in it within a thousand feet of a protected location.

While investigating the case, law enforcement obtained and executed a search warrant on Banks’ residence, across the street from Lincoln Elementary School in Spencer. They found more than a half pound of cocaine, marijuana, psilocybin mushrooms, containers of THC edibles, a digital scale, ammunition, a Glock .22 caliber pistol with ammunition and $16,000 in cash.
