Spokesperson: Sheldon FEMA Center Has Been Busy

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon FEMA Disaster Recovery Center has been open for a few days, and a spokesperson says they’ve been busy.

FEMA Media Relations Specialist Tiana Suber tells us about it.

As you might expect, the busiest FEMA centers have been in the communities hardest-hit by the June flooding.

She says there are a couple of things for which people may be eligible.

She says they also offer disaster-related rental assistance.

According to Suber, they also act as a clearinghouse for other assistance.

Suber tells us it does help if you’d want to begin your application online before you come in, but you don’t have to do that if you don’t want to or if it’s more than you can handle. She says they can start the application in person at their center as well.

The centers are all open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., daily, and will be there until there’s no longer a need. She says at this point there is no firm deadline, but you usually have 60 to 90 days from the date of the disaster to apply.
