Sutherland Man Faces Felony Drug Charges

Sutherland, Iowa — Two Sutherland men have been arrested, one of them on felony drug charges after officers carried out a search warrant in Sutherland.

Authorities say 58-year-old Dean Swanson and 29-year-old James Brockshaus, both of Sutherland were arrested on Thursday.

The Sutherland Police Department says law officers allegedly found eight sealed bags of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a digital scale. Swanson was charged with drug tax stamp violations and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver or manufacture, both class D felonies.

If convicted, Swanson could face up to five years in prison on each count. He also faces misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. A preliminary hearing on the charges is scheduled for Monday, January 22nd.

Brockshaus faces only misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both men were released the day after they were arrested, and await their court dates.
