Two O’Brien County Residents Taken To Spencer Hospital After Accident Near Hartley

Hartley, Iowa– A Hartley woman and a Primghar man were taken to the hospital after an accident near Hartley on Friday, September 20, 2024.

The Iowa State Patrol reports that at about 9:10 a.m., 58-year-old Mia Schultz of Hartley was driving a 2021 Chevy pickup southbound on Taft Avenue, four miles south and four west of Hartley. They tell us that 73-year-old Eugene Schiefen of Primghar was eastbound on 360th Street in a 2023 Ford pickup.

The report says that Schiefen was towing a small single-axle trailer loaded with miscellaneous farm items. The trooper says Schultz failed to stop for the stop sign and collided with the Schiefen vehicle.

The Hartley Ambulance took Schultz to Spencer Regional Hospital and the Primghar Ambulance took Schiefen to Spencer Regional Hospital.

Schultz’s Chevy pickup sustained $40,000 in damages, and Schiefen’s Ford pickup sustained $50,000 in damages. Both vehicles were considered totaled.

No charges were filed.
