VNU Marks Autism Awareness Month

Sheldon, Iowa — This is World Autism Awareness Month, and this Thursday is World Autism Day.

If you’re traveling in Sheldon and wonder why Village Northwest is lit up in blue — that’s because of World Autism Day and Month.

Patty Horstman of the Village tells us about it.

She tells us what autism is.

While it is a diagnosis, many people who are autistic merely see it as a different way that they approach the world. She says acceptance of autism and autistic people is often a hurdle for the neurotypical.

For more information, follow Village Northwest Unlimited on social media this month.

Horstman made her comments on Tuesday on the KIWA Talk of the Town Program, which can be heard on weekday mornings at 8:30 on KIWA-FM 105.3. We also post a podcast of every Talk of The Town Program, and you can find those by clicking here.
