Yankton Man Arrested On Hawarden Felony Drug Warrant

Hawarden, Iowa — A Yankton, SD man has been arrested on a warrant for a felony drug charge for an incident that allegedly happened in 2023.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the Sioux County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Hawarden Police Department, 33-year-old Justin Brown of Yankton is accused of possession of marijuana and methamphetamine on May 29, 2023. He was arrested on Thursday.

In his statement, the officer says Brown’s vehicle was stopped for an equipment violation. The officer says he detected the odor of marijuana and found 1.2 grams. He says Brown also attempted to discard 1.5 grams of meth, and gave a false identity.

Brown was charged with possession of a controlled substance, third or subsequent offense, a class D felony. If convicted, Brown could face up to five years in prison. He also faces misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance, providing false identification information, and interference with official acts.

He faces a preliminary hearing on the charges on Tuesday, October 29th.

At last report, Brown remained in the Sioux County Jail in Orange City in lieu of a $3000 personal recognizance bond.
