Patricia C. Schwartz, age 93 of Sheldon and formerly of the Archer, Iowa area, passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2012 at the Prairie View Retirement Home in Sanborn.
Her services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 25, 2012 at the Archer United Methodist Church in Archer, Iowa, with Rev. Cory Flanigan ~ officiating. Burial will in the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.
Visitation will be after 3:00pm Friday, August 24, 2012 at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon with the family present from 6:00 to 7:00pm. The Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon is in charge of arrangements.

Patricia Claire Schwartz, the daughter of Edward F. and Eva S. (Mattson) Saupe, was born March 14, 1919 on a farm in Carroll Township near Sheldon, Iowa. She attended the country school in Carroll Township until the 8th grade and then graduated from Sheldon High School in 1935 and graduating from Sheldon Junior College in 1937 with a certificate in Elementary Education. Pat taught in rural O’Brien county Schools from 1937 – 1941. On June 1, 1941, she was united in marriage to William H. Schwartz in the Philby Church in Baker Township of O’Brien County. After their marriage the couple lived on a farm north of Sheldon before moving to the original Saupe Farm, that farm became a Century Farm in 1988. Pat was a farmer’s wife, helping out on the farm. She also worked as the Secretary to the Superintendent in the Archer School System for many years; she was also a continuing census survey information gatherer through the labor department. Bill preceded her in death on July 26, 2005 at the Prairie View Home in Sanborn, Iowa. Pat continued to make her home in Sheldon, until moving to the Prairie View Home in Sanborn, where she passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2012, reaching the age of 93 years, 5 months and 5 days.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Archer and served on several church boards, she was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star, Sunday School teacher, Youth Ministry Leader, United Methodist Women Organizations and of Farm Bureau Women. She enjoyed gardening, reading, crossword puzzles, fishing and playing the piano. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband to Washington, Florida, California, Chicago and the Lakes in Okoboji.
Pat leaves to cherish her memory, a son and his wife, Richard and Judie Schwartz of Elmhurst, Illinois; a son-in-law, Neil Schalekamp of Issaquah, Washington; 5 grandchildren, Cari and her husband, Mike Christopher, Cathi and her husband, Roberto Reyes, Susan and her husband, Dan Carollo, Steven and his wife, Tricia Senger-Schalekamp and Caily Schwartz; 10 great-grandchildren, Emily, Michael and Joseph Christopher, Ashley and Amanda Reyes, Karen, Jonathan and Ben Carollo, Evan and Alex Schalekamp; a sister, Ruth Larson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a brother, William (Bill) and his wife, Lorna Saupe of Madison, Wisconsin; a sister-in-law, Mollie Parry of Sheldon, Iowa and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; a daughter, Judith Schalekamp; her parents, and brothers-in-law, Ernest Larson and Briggs Schwartz and a sister-in-law, Harriet Gillespie.
