Betty Storm

Betty Storm age 79 of Sanborn, IA passed away at her home near Sanborn on Wednesday, March 28, 2012.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 31st at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sanborn. Rev. Jesse Burns will be officiating.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 31st at the church with the family present from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Inurnment will be at Roseland Cemetery in Sanborn at a later date.

The Sanborn Funeral Home in Sanborn is in charge of the arrangements for 79 year old Betty Storm of Sanborn. In lieu of flowers the family wishes that memorials be given in Betty’s name to the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sanborn.

Betty Faye Storm, the daughter of Edward and Louise (Neumann) Schirmer, was born on January 23, 1933 in Sanborn, IA. She was baptized on June 11, 1933 and confirmed on May 29, 1949. Betty grew up in the Sanborn area and received her education at Sanborn Public School.

She was united in marriage to Vernon Kenneth Storm on October 1, 1950 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sanborn, IA. To this union four children were born, Edward, Leslie, Rodney, and Anita. Betty lived with her parents in Sanborn while Vernon proudly served his country in the Korean War. Following Vernon’s return home the couple moved to the family farm west of Sanborn where they were engaged in farming together for over 60 years. Betty passed away unexpectedly at their farm on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at the age of 79.

Betty was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Sanborn where she taught Sunday school for many years. She volunteered her time at the Archer Public Library and East Elementary School. She always enjoyed having coffee with her friends. She dearly loved the time spent caring for her grandchildren, taking them to their various activities. She was a people person and no one was a stranger to her. Family and friends could always count on Betty to send a card for many different occasions. Her hobbies and special interests included cooking, baking, and gardening. She collected anything to do with owls and was a huge Elvis Presley fan.

She is survived by her husband Vernon of 61 years; children: Edward Storm and his wife, Cindy, of Sioux City, IA, Leslie Storm and his wife, Janice, of Sanborn, IA, Rodney Storm and his wife, Pauline, of Sanborn, IA, and Anita Heitritter and her husband Todd of Archer, IA; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Lillian Schirmer of Sanborn, IA and Betty Schirmer of Washta, IA; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, four sisters, and a great grandson.
