Janet F. Wielenga

Mrs. Janet Wielenga, age 66, of Orange City, passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at the Orange City Area Health System Hospital.

There will be a funeral service on Saturday, March 31, at 10:00am, at the Alton Reformed Church in Alton. The Rev. Scott Bonestroo will officiate. Interment will follow at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Friday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Janet Faye was born on September 16, 1945, at Orange City, the daughter of Harold and Christine (Pott) Menning. She was raised in the Newkirk and Orange City areas, where she graduated from the Maurice-OrangeCity High School.

On June 25, 1965, she married Lawrence Andrew Wielenga in Newkirk. They made their home in Orange City, where she was a homemaker. Beginning as a teenager, she worked at several businesses in Orange City. Janet and her daughter, Dawn, also owned and operated the Wagon Wheel Restaurant in Orange City. In addition, she worked with her daughter, cooking and baking at the Tri-State Livestock Auction Café in Sioux Center. Most recently, she was a clerk at the Fareway Store in Orange City.

Janet was a member of the Alton Reformed Church, where she was involved in many of their ministries, including a Bible study.

She enjoyed caring for people, especially her husband and daughter, and she liked spending time with her grandchildren, with whom she would often bake. She was known for bringing food to people and never missed an opportunity to help others. Her favorite saying was, “Smile, you don’t know who is watching”.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Dawn Renae Hanson, of Alton, and her special friend, Tony Beegle; four grandchildren, Zachary Michael De Haan, of Alton, and his friend, Kimmi Fuller; Tanya Nicole De Haan, of Orange City, and her friend, Todd Reis; Coleton Lawrence Hanson, of Alton, and his friend Kelsy Stewart; and Carter James Hanson, of Alton; two great-grandchildren, Dawson Andrew Reis and Dakota Rae-Lois Reis; her mother, Christine Menning, of Orange City; a brother and his wife, Stan and Sharon Menning, of Dawson, Minnesota; two sisters, Darlene, and her husband, Randy Immeker, of Sioux Center; and Charlene Palsma, of Alton; and several Wielenga brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her father; Lawrence’s parents, Andrew and Tina Wielenga; a brother-in-law, Lee Palsma; and several Wielenga brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Memorials will be directed to the Orange City Area Home Health and Hospice.
