Bonnie Baartman, age 70, of Sheldon and formerly of Boyden, passed away on Thursday, October 10th, at Sanford Sheldon Senior Care in Sheldon.
Her memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 14th, at the Faith Community Church in Sheldon with Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating.
Visitation with family present will be from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 am.. at Faith Community Church in Sheldon.
Arrangements are under the care of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.
Bonnie Lee “BonBon” Baartman, the daughter of Eugene Barker and Sharon (U’ren) Quinn was born January 15, 1954 in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. She grew-up in Mikana, she attended school and graduated from Rice Lake High School in 1972. She was confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Campia, Wisconsin. In 1973, she moved to Sheldon, Iowa. In her early years Bonnie was a stay-at-home mom taking care of her girls. In 1988, she moved to Boyden, Iowa and moved back to Sheldon in 2016. Bonnie had worked for Joyce’s Foodland, the Pizza Hut and for 18 years for NW Iowa Landfill. Bonnie passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at the Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon, reaching the age of 70 years, 8 months and 25 days.
She was a member of the Faith Community Church in Sheldon, where she enjoyed attending her circle coffee group and assisting with the Summer Children’s Lunch Program. She was also a member of TOPS, since 1974. In 2018 she was crowned Iowa TOPS Queen. She especially enjoyed her family and grandchildren and her great grandchild.
Left to cherish her memories are her 3 daughters and their spouses, Nikkie (Tony) Steffensen of Hartford, South Dakota; Ginger (Jim) Dunn of St. Peter, Minnesota and Trisha (Lee) Nordgaard of Sheldon; 11 grandchildren, Zach (Tamra), Emily (Fab), Andrew, Payton (Jacob), Briley, Jensen, Keira, Tommy, Harrison (Makala), Ashley (Joe), Shane, Luka (Lucy), Owen and Evan; 1 great-grandchild, Henry; a brother, Ron Barker of Oceanside, California; her life-long special friend, Bernie Vander Naald of Sheldon and her special cat, Callie and other relatives and many friends.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her father, Eugene Barker and her stepfather and mother, Lenny and Sharon Quinn and a brother, Don Barker.
