Bonnie Bangert

Bangert, BonnieBonnie M. Bangert, age 91, of Sanborn, Iowa and the Ashton area,  passed away on Monday, March 17, 2014 at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, Iowa.

Private graveside services will be held at a later date with a Memorial Celebrating Bonnie’s Life.

The Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon is assisting the family with the arrangements.

 Bonnie Muriel Bangert, the daughter of William and Tina (Olson) Murray was born on February 7, 1923 in Sioux City, Iowa. Bonnie attended school in Sioux City, graduating from East High School in 1941, she then went on to graduate from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. Bonnie was united in marriage to Richard W. Bangert on May 26, 1945 in Sioux City, Iowa and the couple made their home on a farm near Ashton, Iowa. Bonnie raised her family and taught in the Ashton Public School and the Sheldon Community School Districts for many years retiring in 1988. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard in March of 1992 in Weslaco, Texas. Bonnie remained in Ashton until 2008, when she moved into Fieldcrest in Sheldon, Iowa and in October of 2013 Bonnie became a resident of the Prairie View Home in Sanborn, Iowa. She passed away on Monday, March 17, 2014 at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, Iowa reaching the age of 91 years, 1 month and 10 days.

Bonnie was active in the Ashton Community for 60 years. She was a member of the Sibley United Methodist Church for more than 60 years, a 50 year member of the Eastern Star, and the Ashton Federated Women’s Club. After retiring she spent her summers volunteering for the Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon and her winters, volunteering for HOSTS and the Knapp Memorial Hospital in Weslaco, Texas. Bonnie never lost her love for dancing and enjoyed many hours on the dance floor.

She leaves to cherish her memory her four children, Muriel and her husband, George Caswell of Enid, Oklahoma; Ruth and her husband, Russ Vigstol of Harlingen, Texas; Richard Bangert of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Laura and her husband, Mark Kruger of Ashton, Iowa; 9 grandchildren, Amy, Molly, Grant, Tina, Andy, Charles (Chuck), Allison, Joe and Jessie; 11 great-grandchildren, and other nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.

     Bonnie is preceded in death by her husband, an infant son, Willard; her parents, a brother, William Murray and a sister, Naomi Authier.
