David E. Kruger, 60, of Winthrop, MN, and formerly George, IA, died Friday, August 23, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Society Home in Winthrop.
Graveside services for David will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 29, 2013, at the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George, IA, with Pastor Leland Paulson officiating.
David Earl Kruger was born November 20, 1952, in Des Moines, IA. He was adopted by his parents, Earl and Erma (Hampton) Kruger and was raised and educated in the George, Iowa area. He later attended a trade school in Sioux City to become a nurse. While in school and at the approximate age of 22, David was in an auto accident that left him paralyzed. He moved to Des Moines for rehabilitation. He then spent some time traveling throughout the United States. He lived in California several years before returning to Hot Springs, SD. Later, David moved to Mountain Lake, MN, and then on to New Ulm before his health required him to move to the Good Samaritan Home in Winthrop.
David was a very artistic person. He built models out of match sticks, tin plaiting, knitting, and clay modeling. He also loved people. He never met a stranger that he didn’t know before they parted ways. He played Santa Clause for several events and even displayed his musical talents by singing or playing piano.
David will be missed by his sisters, Julie (Chris) Bokelman, Sun Valley, NV, and Nancy Lessard of Hooksett, NH; one niece, Angie (Craig) Johnson, George, IA; and two nephews, Mark Korthals, Sioux Center, IA and James E. Lessard of Hampton Beach, NH.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Erma (Hampton) Kruger, one brother, Kent Kruger and one brother-in-law, Gilbert Lessard.
