David Roth age 84, of Tempe, AZ, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at the Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa, AZ
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM, Friday, February 17th at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Sibley, IA, with Father Siby Punnoose as celebrant. Burial will be in the Gilman Township Cemetery in Ashton, IA.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 16th, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley, with a rosary at 5:00 p.m.
David Glen Roth was born on July 5, 1938, in Hartley, IA, the son of Eric and Lena (Bernier) Roth. He grew up in Hartley and later graduated from Hartley High School. David served in the U.S. Marine Corp from June 5, 1958, to June 27, 1961. He was stationed in San Diego, CA and served overseas in Okinawa, Japan.
On April 14, 1962, David was united in marriage to Clarice Ann Sterler in Sioux Falls, SD. To this union four children were born, Brenda, Theresa, Karla, and Douglas. The couple farmed near Hartley until 1962 and then moved to Sibley, IA, where they owned and operated “Pla-Mor Bar and Café” from 1971 to 1985. They then moved to Mesa, AZ in 1985 and then moved to Tempe, AZ in 1987. After thirty-five years of marriage Clarice passed away of complications of cancer on October 19, 1997. While living in Arizona David worked as a Supervisor at Norplex. David was a member of the American Legion. His hobbies included making rocking horses, woodworking, golfing, fishing, going to the CASINO gambling, finding treasures at the Thrift Store, and especially spending time with family and friends, and having afternoon totties.
David is survived by his four children, Brenda Dagel of Worthington, MN, Theresa (Gary) Solsma of Orange City, IA, Karla (Mark) Knudson of Sibley, IA, and Douglas Roth of Orange City, IA; five grandchildren, Jed, Lynnzie, Joshua, Mathew, and Cody; eleven great grandchildren, Ashton, Ethan, Braylon, Addison, Emily, Bennett, Jack, Max, Violet, Jackson, and Abby; brother, Tim Roth of Okoboji, IA; nieces, nephews and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eric, and Lena Roth; his wife, Clarice Roth; brother, Jerry Roth; sister-in-law, Lois Roth; grandson, Jesse Dagel, and great grandson, Payton Solsma.
