Dennis Jay DenHartog, age 70, passed away on Wednesday, October 28th, in Arizona, formerly of Sheldon. A celebration of life will be held at Stone & Barrel at Oakwood Country Club in Sun Lakes, AZ at a later date.
The Valley of the Sun Mortuary & Cemetery is in charge of arrangements.
He was born in Sheldon, Iowa, on August 2, 1956. Dennis built a career as a salesman and in his younger years, he owned several businesses and later worked for FS, Valent, and Brokaw Supply, where he sold Apache Sprayers. At the time of his passing, he was employed by Agro Ecopower.
Dennis was a man who left an impression on everyone he met. If you knew him, you never forgot him. He was known for his ability to fix just about anything, his willingness to help anyone, and his habit of offering good advice, whether you asked for it or not. No matter the situation, you could always count on him. He often reminded others, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.”
Dennis enjoyed shooting pool with his buddies and spending afternoons bobbing in the pool, catching up on all the latest gossip with Bill, Mark, Joe, Jim, Steve, and Roger. He also loved watching his grandsons play basketball on Friday nights on TV and spending time with his friends. Some of his favorite times included sharing a great meal at Stone & Barrel, heading over to Mike and Amie Burke’s for tacos, or going out with Mike and Amie and Gary and Daphne Feekes to enjoy live music and a drink or two. Above all, Dennis loved his family and cherished the friendships he made throughout his life, especially those in Arizona.
A special thank you to all of Dennis’ friends throughout the years, both in Iowa and Arizona, for the love, support, and kind words you have shared with us during this difficult time of losing such a great man (Dazzling Denny D).
Dennis is survived by his sons, Deric DenHartog (Amber) of George, IA and Kyle DenHartog (Jenny) of Waterloo, IA; his grandchildren, Tommy DenHartog (Madi), Patrick DenHartog, Jase DenHartog, Andie DenHartog, and Addy DenHartog (Kyle and Jenny’s daughter); his sister, Cheryl Gruis (Richard) of Marion, IA; his brother, Larry DenHartog (Deb) of Sheldon, IA. He is also survived by Wade DenHartog (Brooke) of West DesMoines, IA, Thad DenHartog (Jennifer) of Bettendorf, IA, Chad Gruis (Michelle) of Marion, IA; and many great friends in NW Iowa, Eldridge, IA (Quad Cities) and Sun Lakes, AZ.
