Donald Tiedeman

Donald D. TiedemanDonald Tiedeman, age 81, of Hull, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2014, at the Avera Doughtery Hospice House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, October 14, at 10:30am, at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in George. The Rev. Dale Phelps will officiate. Following a lunch and fellowship, there will be a graveside service at the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in rural Hull about 1:30pm.

Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Monday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

Donald Dewain was born on August 13, 1933, in Boyden, the son of William and Nellie (Dickman) Tiedeman. He was raised at Boyden, where he graduated from high school. He also attended the Northwest Iowa Technical College in Sheldon. In addition, he served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

On December 12, 1952, he married Anna Bakker in Alvord. They made their home by Hull, where he farmed. He also hauled milk, worked in a creamery, and drove truck. In 2002, they moved into Hull. They enjoyed wintering in Mesa, Arizona, for several years. More recently, they became residents of Aspen Heights Assisted Living in Hull.

“Don” was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he served on the board of directors of the cemetery. He also belonged to the Wegman-Koele American Legion Post in Hull.

He thoroughly enjoyed farming, but also liked camping and spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of more than 61 years; four children, Glen Tiedeman, of Swicher; Diane, and her husband, Doug Van Voorst, of Marionville, Missouri; Darwin Tiedeman, and his wife, Lorna, of Hull; and Darryl Tiedeman, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; fourteen grandchildren, Michelle (Paul) Wehr, Troy (Christine) Tiedeman, Jessica Van Voorst, Jeremy (Jamie) Van Voorst, Nicholas (Tosha) Van Voorst, Amanda (Brian) Archer, Eric Tiedeman, Michael Tiedeman, Kristen Konz, Kelly (Whitney) Konz, Justin Tiedeman, Amber (Jeremy) Hoiland, Tyler (Bobbie) Tiedeman, and Nicole Tiedeman; thirteen great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Evelyn Bakker, of Sioux Center; Eldonis, and her husband, Artie Dykstra, of Hull; and Shirley, and her husband, Lanny Winters, of Boyden.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, Connie, in infancy, and Arwin, as a child; a brother, Delmar Tiedeman; and two brothers-in-law, Wayne Kruse and Bernie Bakker.
