Mrs. Geraldine Mouw, age 77, of Alton, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2014, at the Orange City Area Health System.
There will be a funeral service on Saturday, October 11, at 10:30 am, at the Alton Reformed Church in Alton. The Rev. Scott Bonestroo will officiate. Interment will follow at the Nassau Township Cemetery near Alton. Visitation will be after 4:00 pm on Friday, with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Geraldine Julia was born on April 23, 1937, in Orange City, the daughter of Gerrit J. and Julia (Ketel) Roghair. She was raised at Alton, where she graduated from the public high school. She then was employed by the Sioux Abstract Company in Orange City for thirteen years.
On February 14, 1967, she married Kenneth Wayne Mouw at the Alton Reformed Church. They made their home in Alton, where she was a homemaker. “Ken” passed away on January 19, 2010, in Sioux City, after almost 43 years of marriage.
“Gerry” was a lifetime member of the Alton Reformed Church. She volunteered at the Heritage House Nursing Home and at Zestos, both in Orange City. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, reading, and playing cards.
Survivors include six children, Randy Mouw, of Rock Valley; Douglas Mouw, of Orange City; Debra, and her husband, Mark Rensink, of Sioux Center; David Mouw, and his wife, Cara, of Underwood; Daniel Mouw, and his fiancé, Jodi, of Council Bluffs; and Donna, and her husband, Dale Kluckman, of Le Mars; eight grandchildren, Laura, and her husband, Michael Vander Stelt; Joshua Rensink, and his fiancé, Kayla; Micah Rensink, and his wife, Heather; Sara, and her husband, Tony Morris; Samantha Mouw; Adam Mouw, and his wife, Brianna; Benjamin Mouw; and Matthew Mouw, and his fiancé, Alaura; three great-grandchildren, Jocelyn Morris, Henry Vander Stelt and Jonathan Mouw; a sister, Joan Roghair, of Alton; a brother-in-law, James Filarski, of Hospers; and many nephews and nieces.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Brent Rensink and Caitlin Mouw; two brothers and five sisters, Judson (Clara) Roghair, Viola (Julian) Doggett, John (Sophia) Roghair, Theresa (Don) Erkes, Thelma Filarski, Colleen (Loren) Jones, and Delores Roghair (infant); and her husband’s brothers and sisters and their spouses.
Memorials will be directed to the Alton Reformed Church.
