Doris Michels

Doris Michels, age 89, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Monday, February 24, 2014 at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sheldon, Iowa. Father Allan Reicks and Deacon Ray Portz officiating.

Burial at 3:30 P.M. at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Clarion, Iowa.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 26 from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Scriptural Wake Service at 7:00 P.M. Parish Rosary at 7:30 P.M. at Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon.

Doris Jean Michels was born January 10, 1925 in Eagle Grove, Iowa. She was the daughter of Bert and Inger (Anderson) Weland. She lived her youth in Eagle Grove where she graduated from high school. She was united in marriage to Edward Henry Michels of Clarion, Iowa on April 15, 1944. They farmed near Clarion for many years. Edward passed away January 2, 1982. Doris then moved into Clarion, and in 2002 she moved to Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Sheldon, Iowa.

Doris was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of Sheldon. She participated in a sewing group, and enjoyed making quilts, some of which were donated to the hospital for families of stillborn babies. She formerly attended St. John’s Catholic Church in Clarion where she was a member of St. Ann’s Circle.

Doris was loving, spirited and devoted to her family. She had a sharp sense of humor. She was a woman of deep faith and strong will evidenced by overcoming lymphoma in 2002. Doris was a gifted seamstress who enjoyed sewing for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an enthusiastic collector of Precious Moments, and she loved watching sports.

She passed away Monday February 24, 2014 at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Those left to cherish her memory include 3 sons: Steven (Janet) Michels Altoona, IA, Gary (Rita) Michelsof Ft. Collins CO, Denny (Malinda) Michels of Sheldon, IA; 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, parents, and 5 brothers and 4 sisters.
