Dorothy M. Den Hartog, age 88, of Sanborn, Iowa formerly of Sheldon, Iowa passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Prairie View Home in Sanborn.
Her funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. on Monday, September 25, 2017 at First Reformed Church in Sheldon with Rev. Paul Van Maaren Officiating. Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery, rural Matlock, Iowa.
Visitation with family present will be from 2 to 4 P.M. on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

Dorothy Mae Sluijer, daughter of Ed and Sina (Heikens) Sluijer was born April 5, 1929 near Matlock, Iowa. She attended rural school. She married Henry (Hein) Riemersma on January 3, 1947. After their marriage, the couple farmed on the home place from 1948 to 1964. They moved to Sheldon in 1964. Dorothy did laundry work for others for several years then became a nurse’s aide and worked in Sheldon Community Hospital for four years. She then cleaned houses for others for 23 years. Henry passed away on February 5, 1995. She married Don Den Hartog on April 5, 1996 at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. Don preceded her in death on December 17, 2000. Dorothy passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Prairie View Home in Sanborn, reaching the age of 88 years, 5 months and 16 days.
Dorothy was a member of First Reformed Church in Sheldon. She enjoyed flowers, birds, crocheting and quilting. She also enjoyed camping, going to air shows and attending sprint car races.
Left to cherish Dorothy’s memory are her two sons and their spouses, Bob and Marie Riemersma and Jim and Linda Riemersma all of Sheldon; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Alice Sluijer of Sand Lake, Michigan; June Den Hartog of Sheldon; Jeanette Den Hartog of Pella, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Don (Glenda) Riemersma of Sheldon, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Marion Riemersma of George, Iowa: two step sons, Larry (Deb) Den Hartog of Sheldon and Dennis Den Hartog and friend, Terri Keith of Eldridge, Iowa; step daughter, Cheryl (Richard) Gruis of Marion, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, infant sister, Evelyn Doris Sluijer, great granddaughter, Angel Marie McDonough; brother, Loren Sluijer; brothers-in-law, Elmer Den Hartog, Lawrence Den Hartog, Howard Den Hartog and sisters-in-law, Jo Den Hartog, Ethel Kuyper and Lois Van Meeteren.
