Elizabeth Riebeling

Elizabeth Riebeling age 95 of Lester, IA died Monday, September 8, 2014, at her home south of Lester, IA.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 12th at Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, IA, with Rev. Mark Hansen officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Lester, IA. Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 11th from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

Elizabeth Riebeling was born July 25, 1919 on a farm near Little Rock, Iowa, the daughter of Aljet B. and Grace (Unden) Henrichs. She attended country school and worked as a hired hand and house maid at the age of 14.

Elizabeth was united in marriage to Waldo Riebeling on April 26, 1946. Together they raised crops and milked cows near Alvord, IA their entire married life. They were blessed with three children, Wanda, Viola and LeRoy. On December 5, 1953, Elizabeth’s husband died and Elizabeth continued to run the farm until age 89. After she slowed down from the day to day chores, she enjoyed search-a-word and puzzles along with hot tea and Ritz crackers.

She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church of Rock Rapids. Elizabeth’s family will remember her as a strong willed woman with a tremendous work ethic.

She is survived by her two daughters, Wanda Riebeling of Alvord, IA and Viola McKenney of Rock Rapids, IA; four grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Waldo Riebeling; son, LeRoy James Riebeling; five sisters, Anke Jurrens, Minnie Lursen, Helen Jurrens, Annie Harms and Grace Nuebauer; and five brothers, Ben Henrichs, Willie Henrichs, Reiner Henrichs, George Henrichs and Aljet (Ollie) Henrichs.
